I can recall two very early moments.

One is when my grandfather kicked my little brother in the head to wake him up.

But he kicked him in the head to wake him up.

But he kicked him in the head with his big black shoes and I heard I saw the kick but I also heard the

thud and my brother didn't cry.

But seeing that happened to my brother was worse, I think, than anything that ever happened to me.

Because I saw him try to fight back the tears and succeed.

And there was something about that courage that annihilated me.

The woman you just heard was seven years old at the time this happened.

The abuse she described just got worse.

She and her brother were raised in a cult and suffered repeated trauma throughout their

childhoods all in the name of God.
