And we're excited to talk about the Book of Alma today. We're in chapters 43 to 52.

It's an eight-year span from the 18th year of the reign of the judges to the 25th.

It's a very important time. It's a crucial time and there are several major stakes that we confront here in this

book of Alma.

It's a long book, and we hope you won't get weary as you read through it.

As you try to get a handle on the big picture of the book of Alma, you might wonder,

why does the book of Alma go all the way through

chapter 63? Because Heelman's the one who's writing here. Moronai. We are Mormon. We have lots of

different people who are speaking. But there's something, I think, really important that ties

the whole book of Alma together.

You remember the book of Alma started with the problem of establishing the reign of judges and the challenge that came with Nahor.

And the big question I think in the book of Alma is will the reign of judges survive?

And Heelman, of course, will be the successor to Alma. His son. But they don't know

whether Alma is coming back or not. That's Chapter 45. I think for a while they are wondering,

well, maybe he will come. And if he does, then he will continue as the high priest. Understood. So in a way,

I believe all the way till the time that the book of Alma ends, Heelman is the acting high

priest, acting on behalf of his father, because they don't know that he is dead or gone or whatever.

And so we have that thread holding the book of

Alma together. But then we also have the question of all these challenges to the reign of judges.

The Zoramites will become a major factor.
