Amanda Feilding is not only a recognised artist and scientist but also carries the title, Countess of Wemyss and March. Born into a family of rich aristocratic heritage she seems an unlikely advocate for psychedelic drug policy reform, but she is leading one of the most informed and rational conversations with the donation funded Beckley Foundation - of which she is the founder and Director.
The Beckley Foundation is a UK-based think-tank that, since its establishment in 1998, has been at the forefront of global drug policy reform and scientific research into the potential medical benefits of psychoactive substances, with a particular focus on cannabis and the psychedelics. The Foundation’s Scientific Programme collaborates with leading experts and institutions on a wide range of projects investigating the neurophysiology, pharmacology and subjective effects of meditation and psychoactive substances.
This pioneering research has shed much light on the mechanisms of action of these substances, their therapeutic potential and consciousness itself. The Foundation’s Policy Programme has greatly influenced global drug policy reform. The Foundation had been responsible for organising a series of pivotal international seminars at the House of Lords, publishing over 40 much-cited books and reports, holding numerous meetings with thought-leaders, and advising other policy makers such as President Pérez Molina of Guatemala on drug policy reform.
Amanda is changing the conversation and perhaps is one of the most exciting guests relating to the field of drug reform that we’ve had on the show. Your mind will be blown, don’t miss it!
