This is really special for everyone at Apple because today's event is about education.

Education is deep in our DNA and it has been from the very beginning.

Our entire education business is based on a unique understanding of teaching, learning, and student achievement.

We try to bring the same passion and energy that we put into every product we make and every innovative new technology into our education business as well.

We're so proud to take part in anything we can do to help students learn and achieve great things.

Well, there's something really profound starting to happen.

It's remarkable.

We're seeing that students are starting to be introduced to iPad in learning.

It's some really remarkable things are happening and we're in the cusp of something really great.

Whether they're in high school and they're using the iPad to study up for a biology or chemistry test or maybe they're a K-6 student with special needs and they're just trying to communicate with the world.

We hear countless stories from parents and teachers but how with iPad they're able to communicate with and even teach special needs children and it's really heartwarming.

So we're starting to see a lot of really great successes but there are challenges in education both old and new and they're pretty profound.

The truth is if you're a high school student in the U.S. it's not so easy.

Not only the social pressures but the statistics are that if you enter a freshman four years from now you have about a 70% chance of graduating in four years.

In heart-hit urban areas that's as low as 60%. It's really tough and those numbers are not great.

And if you are one of the ones that are lucky enough to work hard and graduate you may not be the best prepared to compete in a global economic environment.

In the core curriculum of reading math and science we see that the U.S. is not at the top of industrialized nations.
