Last week on the live programme we do for BBC Radio Scotland called Out of Doors,

we spoke about the 275th anniversary of the Battle of Collodon, which took place just outside Inverness between the forces of Bonnie Prince Charlie, the Jacobites, and the Duke of Camberland, the Hanoverians. The result for the Jacobites was not a good one. It put me in mind

of a programme I was involved with back in 2008. Now it was produced by a lady called Louise Yeoman,

who also happens to be a professional historian, and she did such a good job of it

that that year at the British Archaeology Awards

it was declared the best program on television or radio.

I think it was the first time a radio program had ever won it.

Anyway, this is called Collodon, a new battle

and I hope you find it interesting.

There were drums on the battlefield.

So you have this musical element.

You have cries and shouts, the orders going going around and then you've actually got when it starts the artillery barrage.

You've got cries of the wounded.

Now that will be cannon going off.
