First, Silicon Valley politics. I was both amused and stunned by an interview that Mark Andresen, partner to venture capital

firm Andresen Horowitz, did with Ross Douthat of the New York Times just before Trump's inauguration.

He prefaced these remarks by noting he'd been talking with his partner, Ben Horowitz's father,

the evil right-wing or David Horowitz, about these matters.

David was a leftist in the 1960s who turned into a right-wing provocateur.

Only fear of litigation keeps me from repeating some of the stories my late friend Bob Fitch,

who worked with him on Ramparts Magazine, told me about him. Andresen had a lot of complaints

about kids today, quoting, they come out, of college, that is, as some version of radical Marxists, and the fundamental valence went from capitalism as good and the enabler of a good society to capitalism is evil and should be torn down.

And then the other part was social revolution, and the social revolution, of course, was the great awokening, and then those conjoined.

By 2013, the media newly arrived Harvard kid was like,

"'Eff it. We're burning the system down. You're all evil. White people are evil. All men are evil.

All men are evil. Capitalism is evil. Tech is evil. So I had this moment with a senior executive,

who I won't name, but he said to me with a sense of dawning horror,

I think some of these kids are joining the company not with the intent of doing things for us, but destroying us. Destroy a company from the inside. That's the end of the

quote from Andresen. And then I saw an article in the Financial Times last week saying all that

activism of the sort that so upset Andresen had died down. Wondering what's been going on, I emailed
