Beryl Bender Birch, author of Power Yoga and founder of The Hard and the Soft Yoga Institute, joins J for a look back at the earliest remnants of yoga in the west, its progression into the mainstream, and the role she played in shepherding it forth. They discuss what yoga was like in the late sixties and early seventies, how she found her way into teaching yoga for athletes and coming up with the name ‘Power Yoga’, Patabhi Jois, and her work with the Give Back Yoga Foundation. 1:00.1	My reservoir of enthusiasm feels like it has run a bit dry, which has happened somewhat suddenly, you know, last week I was riding a bit high.

1:30.3	And really, that is the teacher that I would align with most on a very core level, like
1:38.3	what I do, some of the fundamental things that I'm teaching, come from that particular teacher

1:45.7	were featured at this event, including Mark Whitwell, who's a teacher of mine, who's been on
1:51.5	this podcast, Gary Craftsau, who I've been trying to get on in the past, and now said he would
1:57.9	come on, and Mirka Craftsau, and Larry Payne, and Richard Miller,
2:04.6	and a man named Sri Ram, who I only just met and recorded a fantastic talk with
