If you could hunt big nil deer in an area that historically has great genetics, but you had to do it with iron sights on your modern center fire rifle,

would you go for it?

Today, I've got my good friend Ron Spomer here with me and we're going to record a discussion

about setting up a modern hunting rifle with iron sights to hunt mule deer. And this is kind of a

funny situation that's been prompted by well mule deer populations habitat conditions, all those

adjoining factors that have prompted Utah wildlife managers for right or wrong to institute some new regulations in certain units in Utah.

And one of them is where I grew up.

One of them is the unit next to which I live in southeastern Idaho.

Both of them historically have had big mule deer.

Both of them now until 2030 have regulations specifying that you have to hunt with iron

sites only on your center fire rifle.

What do you think of that, Ron?

I'm glad I've got other places done. No, I think I understand what's going on. I didn't know this until you told me. I kind of heard some rumors, but it's like so many regulations that are

trying to control the harvest. Arch you know back east if you want

to go white tail hunting with a bow you can use usually a crossbow yeah but out here no way

we just don't have the numbers of deer how do you reduce the harvest to keep the populations healthy

while you're still

satisfying hunter demand for some activity?

I mean, we want to go hunting.
