I wanted to return to one of those figures that was the one who

the one who leaned over to his streets of Oxford and that is

Hugh Latimer was the one who leaned over to his colleague Nicholas Ridley

as they were both tied to the stake there and burned to death for their

faith in Christ.

And he said to Ridley, be of good cheer, Master Ridley.

Well a man who says those words is probably a life that we want to get to know.

And so this is the life of Bishop Hugh Latimer.

He was born sometime in the 1480s.

Historians just sort of put a pin there in that decade and put his birth at 1485.

He comes from a family of probably wealthy farmers and in the early years of 1500, that first decade of 1500, he's a student at Cambridge.

He takes his bachelor's degree in 1510 and stays on and receives a master's degree.

He's appointed a chaplain and continues to be a student and

eventually he earns what we would consider today a masters of divinity.
