Summary

One of the greatest and most enigmatic painters, born into an insane time. He was also a complete nightmare. This is the story of a man whose poor behavior was matched only by his ability to capture the human condition. It's also a story of extreme violence, tennis(?), two weird poems, and ridiculous amounts of enabling and privilege. But, first, our story begins away in a manger... It then quickly flies off the rails when some Roman Emperors make bad decisions, a bunch of popes have rough days, and the fallout after the church’s needs outpace its wallet.

0:14.3	Welcome to ArtHoles. My name is Michael Anthony and this is the podcast about art and art history with someone who has no authority to speak on these topics.

0:49.8	outside of their chosen profession and a lot of these people are stone cold disasters.

1:03.0	About midway through the series, there's an incredibly complex trial with potential life sentences in prison, and it is not for a thing that you can imagine.

1:18.0	Oh, and I want to address the gender issue up front. This is obviously the third male artist in a row that I'm covering and there's a few reasons for that.
1:25.9	I'm learning that throughout history women have been kept out of the arts, really for a pretty long time.
1:31.6	So de facto I'll likely be covering way more men than women and
1:35.2	I want to make sure that I space things out as best that I can and also I'm a guy and
1:41.2	I don't know shit about art besides whichever artist that I'm covering and I just started podcasting so I wanted to get a little bit better at this before I cover a female artist's life.
