0:05.6	Luther's writings and today we are looking at by his own estimation one of his most
0:11.2	important writings the small catechism, or as he called it, the
0:15.7	Kinder catechismus, the child's catechism.
0:19.0	Again, we are on location.
0:20.6	We are here in Vittenberg in front of the great cloister, the black cloister, the Augustinian
0:26.3	monastery where Luther lived as a monk.
0:28.8	And then from 1525, once he married Katie, it was his home.
0:32.6	Frederick the Wies gave it to him.
0:34.8	It was a very busy time back then,
0:37.3	and it is a very busy time right now.
0:39.9	Lots of people milling about,
0:41.8	lots of people visiting the Luther's, lots of people milling about, lots of people visiting the Luther's,
0:44.0	lots of people looking in, as it were,
0:46.8	at the Luther family.
0:48.4	As you looked in on the Luther family,
0:50.6	one of the things you would see
0:52.2	is that Luther took the role of teaching
0:54.7	his children very importantly. This was a crucial thing for him and so he would
1:00.0	teach his children the catechism. In fact at one point he says though I am a profound
1:05.2	doctor and advanced in my study I have not yet advanced beyond the
1:10.3	catechism beyond the 10 Commandments the Apostles Creed and the Creed and the Lord's Prayer.
