Today's topic, cognitive behavioral therapy, or what people typically refer to as CBT.

Now, this is the therapeutic modality that I was primarily trained in.

As a neuropsychologist, my primary role is focusing on diagnostics.

There's a few people I see for cognitive therapy and private practice.

And kind of the historical context of it is it really started with the work of Alfred

Adler and mentioned him as Freud student who disagree with the notion of the unconscious

and basically said everything is a choice.

Later on, there was Kurt Adler, his son, and then Albert Ellis, who's really cool.

His therapy technique was called Rational Emotive Therapy.

And it was kind of really like this direct in-your-face type of therapy.

And it's a very confrontational therapeutic technique.

And it migrated into the work of Aaron Beck, who is the founder of

cognitive behavioral therapy. So what cognitive behavioral therapy is, it's based on what's called

the cognitive triad. You have cognitions or thoughts. You have behaviors.

And then you have emotions.

Now, from my perspective, emotions are irrelevant in therapy.
