China says it's raising its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports from 84 to 125%. That came as leader Xi Jinping said his nation is not afraid in his first public comments on the

escalating tip-for-tat with the U.S. According to Chinese state media, she said there are no winners in a trade war,

and it, quote, will only lead to self-isolation.

President Donald Trump is confident he can get a deal, but there are some challenges,

as CNN's Kylie Atwood explains.

According to senior White House officials who spoke with our colleague Elena Trin, President

Trump believes that China needs to make the first move here, and that's because they

have retaliated against his escalatory trade war that has occurred here.

And the problem being, however, China has not responded to the U.S. saying that you should

be calling Trump here.

The problem is that they believe that President Xi doesn't want to be seen as weak right

now.
