I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Friday, April 11th.

Another day, another major escalation in the China-U.S. Trade War. This morning, Beijing announced

it's raising its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports from 84 percent to 125 percent,

but it appeared to indicate that it wouldn't increase its duties any further.

That may sound like a good thing, but as CNN's Mike Valerio explains, the country may just

be moving towards another economic toolkit.

That could mean, and I stress could, mean some of the following.

Buying soybeans, for example, not from the American Heartland,

but buying more soybeans critical to the Chinese economy

from Brazil.

Cutting off all exports of rare earth minerals

to the United States,

critical minerals that are needed for semiconductors,

for production of, you know, the internal

workings of cars and computers, you name it.

...
