on the road again. Man for about two years through the middle of the whole COVID

fiasco, if I can use that word for it, I didn't travel a lot. Like, you know, I historically have in my position as a journalist in the hunting and shooting fields. I was more or less working from home and also moving my family to a new state and

trying to build a house on some bare land that we'd gotten in that new state and that all in itself was

geez already way too much right that was a big task to take on during that period. I'm not one of those guys and we were not one of those families that had a lot of downtime during the so-called pandemic. I like to think of it as the panic-demic because of the odd things, the odd characteristics

and reactions that we humans displayed throughout the whole thing. At any rate, we were insanely busy for those two years,

and always trying to make ends meet,

trying to make timelines, trying to get a home built and moved into.

Thankfully we're there and life has equilibrium again.

And funny enough, now that most of the restrictions have been lifted you know you don't have to show a COVID test to go

get on an airplane and go anywhere you don't have to wear a mask in the airport or on the airplane. Life is more or less going back to normal, but it seems

like all of those assignments, those are potential assignments that I could have been out on assignment taken care of during that slower, allegedly slower two year period have all just taken off at once and so I am

traveling like a wild man right now. Currently I am recording from a hotel room in the great Midwest. I'm attending a

a man manufacturers event, a new product launch. By the time you hear this I'll be

home in Idaho again, but as it is I sit late at night in a hotel room, so my apologies of the sound. Quality isn't real good here. You might hear an air conditioner kick on and

it's supposed to be 103 degrees tomorrow and it's muggy. A little different from

the average of 85 and low humidity where I've been accustomed to being in Idaho.

Anyway, rambling aside, two episodes ago I did a piece on optimizing 30 caliber cartridge performance for hunting and particularly for backcountry hunting.

And I posted a cover photo on you know online with that episode and then also on

social media just letting people know it was up and whatnot. I included five of my top picks for the 30 caliber

cartridges in that category in that photograph. If I remember right there it's 308, 30-6, 300 win mag, 300 PRC, gosh I'm missing one, but anyway I did not include some of the other great 30-caliber cartridges including, you know, 300

Weatherby Magnum, 378, 300 H&H, one of my all-time favorites.
