As I explained before, my name is John Hanley Elgin, and I am currently the organizational

head of a paranormal research group that has worked quietly out of the University of California for the past 40 years.

Yes, we investigate hauntings.

I won't explain our history or our research methods here.

Eleven years ago, one of our data analysts detected an odd pattern in hauntings reported to our group since

1991. Several people residing in the Northeast who couldn't possibly know each other had similar visions in the Northeast who couldn't possibly know each other had similar visions in their homes of ghosts

dressed in early Americana clothing, sometimes appearing as corpses. And also if their properties were on the water,

glimpses of a phantom ship in distress.

Some suffered terrible nightmares,

a persistent sense of being watched, or even startling behavioral

impulses preceded by a torrent of unknowable symbols and letters streaming across their field of vision whether their eyes were open or closed.

These formed the lyrics to a kind of discordant rasping song by some inhuman chorus assaulting the mind. Little by little more patterns emerged.

We came to realize that the houses where these phenomena occurred seemed to have subtle design similarities.

We traveled to the country for many years studying their structure and materials and realized that each had a clear anomaly, unusually old wood, stone or glass,

embedded in unusual parts of the house, having no functional business there.
