Today is also the feast day of Saints Perpetua and Felicity.

St. Perpetua and Felicity were early Christian martyrs, and they were venerated by a lot of people a long time ago.

In fact, St. Augustine, who lived in a similar area in North Africa as where these women lived and died,

he wrote a sermon about their lives, praising them not only for, of course, refusing to deny Jesus and offering their lives as sacrifice as martyrs, but he also praised them for being mothers.

Perpetua had a little baby when she was arrested and Felicity was pregnant.

These friends were baptized despite the risk that they faced by proclaiming their Christian faith.

And they ultimately died in the Coliseum, but they died as friends together united in Jesus Christ supporting each other and their martyrdom

their example helped bring other people into the faith even during this terrible time of persecution

and so we ask for saints felicityicity, and Perpetua, to pray for us, especially as we

dive into Lent, that we are willing to stand near Jesus, to suffer for him, knowing that our

suffering is valuable, and that it can do good in this world just as their suffering did.
