Hello, I'm Lynn Hilton Wilson, part of the Scripture Central team.

As we strive to defend the Book of Mormon and Restored Scripture and make it more defensible,

I would like to invite you to come and follow church history, and I'd like to welcome

Janice Johnson, this great scholar, to talk about some of these hard questions in church history.

It's good to be with you this morning, Lynn. And I'm excited to talk about Section 19, too,

and the printing of the Book of Mormon. I'm really intrigued by Martin Harris, but I love talking about the Book of Mormon and the publication of the Book of Mormon and how the early saints

would use the Book of Mormon.

So I'm excited we get to talk about that a little bit today.

Let's start with the timeline and then we can turn it over to you and the hard questions.

Back in 1827, this small group of publishers in this new town of Palmyra,

the town's only been around for 30, 40 years since the opening up west of the Appalachians.

Mr. Granon starts as an apprentice and in 1827, he decides to buy the Wayne County Sentinel.

And he's got the same people working for him. He's a young guy. He's so young and he he's the same. I mean,

these are all 20-somethings. Joseph Oliver, like, they are young guys who are excited about just,

they're on the edge of the frontier. They're excited about the possibility. And Grandin buys this,

which with what we would consider really great

timing well and the other thing that's amazing to me as we'll talk later on is he has a lot of

experience people helping him but let's keep with the timeline for a minute we know that in

1829 Oliver Cowdery arrived on April 5, and they begin the translating on April 7th,

and they finished the translating of the Book of Mormon that we know it on June 30th.

And then that same year, just a few months later, between August 1st and 17th, Joseph

begins looking for the publisher.
