Hello, welcome back to Scripture Central. I'm Lynn Hilton Wilson here to invite you to come follow church history.

We try to build enduring faith in Jesus Christ by illuminating restored scripture, making them more accessible and defensible and comprehensible.

And today I am so excited to get some hard questions from the organization of the church.

This is one of the happiest times in the history of the church as this day has approached after 10 years of tutoring.

And this year, one of the questions I want to mention every week is, was Joseph a product of his environment?

And if Section 20 was Revelation, why do we have it rewritten and reworked?

And how does this work?

Revelation, isn't it supposed to just come from God and then be written out?

What's this business that Oliver is given the assignment to write it up and Joseph

goes back and forth with different editions? Another hard question is, why do we have different

names of the church? And in the organization of the church, we have to talk about differences

in location, in numbers, and in the date.

I don't know if you're aware of all these challenges, but some of these things are pretty

serious. I'd like to go to my timeline now and look at a few things that are surrounding the

organization of the church. We have to go back several months, almost 11 months, to June of 1829. In Section 18 of the Doctrine

Covenants, do you remember Oliver was asked to search out the Book of Mormon, to find out

the things that were needed to organize the church? Now remember, Joseph asked Oliver to be his

scribe for the majority of the Book of Mormon, and then he asked him to write out the printer's

manuscript. So at the same time that he's writing out the printer's manuscript, he's keeping his eye out

for things about the church. Joseph already had it given to him in revelation that he would need to

organize a church. And so as Oliver is writing out this printer's manuscript, he's making notes and highlighting

things that we need to do as the Book of Mormon did in the restored church.
