0:13.2	Moses continues his farewell speech today and he covers a wide variety of laws in these
0:17.6	three chapters.
0:19.0	We don't have time to touch on them all, so I'll just pull a few from the ones that might
0:22.4	have been the most perplexing from our reading, most of which pertain to relationships between
0:27.0	men and women.
0:28.8	But before we get there, I want to remind us about a few things just so we have the proper
0:32.8	framework for what we're encountering here.
0:36.4	God is not setting up a utopian society where everything is ideal.
0:40.9	God is meeting the people where they are and giving them a framework for a functional
0:44.7	society where people are treated with at least the bare minimum level of respect.
0:49.9	When God addresses something like multiple wives, it doesn't mean he's putting a seal of
0:54.0	approval on it.
0:55.1	It means he's acknowledging that it happens and he's giving them honorable ways to respond
1:00.2	to an imperfect, sinful situation.
1:03.3	We'll hit some challenging passages today and it's important for us to remember not to
1:07.0	overlay our cultural experience onto theirs.
