0:00.0	Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble and I'm your host for the Bible recap.
0:13.3	Yesterday we met Israel's fifth judge, Gideon.
0:16.2	He was full of self-doubt, but God used him to win the war against the Midianites.
0:20.8	Today we open with the tribe of Ephraim having the strangest complaint of all.
0:24.9	Their mad they weren't invited to the war.
0:27.7	They seem to pride themselves on being warriors.
0:30.4	It's part of their identity, so they feel insulted that Gideon only had them come in as back
0:34.7	up yesterday in chapter 7.
0:37.0	But they calm down a bit when Gideon praises their previous military victories.
0:42.0	Then Gideon and his crew head across the Jordan River into the area of the trans-Jordan tribes.
0:46.6	They're trying to capture two of the Midianite kings so they can finish off the war.
0:51.2	Gideon asked some of the people in East Menace to feed his army and they deny him.
0:55.6	These from West Menace, so these guys technically are from the same tribe, but they offer no support.
1:01.1	And he promises to destroy their town of Sukkoth.
1:04.6	Then he moves on to Penule, a city in Gad, which is the neighboring tribe to the south.
1:09.2	And they deny him food too.
1:11.4	So he promises to destroy their local tower.
1:14.6	His anger is warranted because these are fellow Israelites and they're supposed to help
1:18.4	each other out, especially in war efforts.
1:21.2	But Gideon's response does seem a bit extreme.
1:24.6	Like he's still operating out of insecurity and has something to prove.
1:29.0	Even though he just had a military victory, he never wielded a sword.
