Summary

In this podcast, we continue our detailed discussion of the adrenergic receptors with a deep dive into the beta 1 receptor and the many different contexts it’s tested in on the USMLE exams. Don’t sleep on this podcast. A lot of what I discuss here shows up routinely on all the USMLEs. Audio Download

Welcome, my name is Devine. This is episode 474 of the Divine Intervention

0:06.0

Podcasts. And today's podcast we're going to be continuing the series on

0:11.0

the Aichronergic Receptors. Again, as we've mentioned, they're pretty high-yold things to understand.

0:16.0

So I've had a podcast already on the Alpha One receptor, a podcast on the Alpha 2 receptor, there's going to be a podcast on the

0:26.2

beta 2 receptor. And the beta, I mean the beta 1 receptor, sorry, and the beta 1 receptor

0:31.3

is a pretty straightforward receptor.

0:32.8

I'm just like again every eigenergic receptor it's a g-protein coupled receptor and it's a

0:39.7

stimulatory g-protein-cobole receptor. So what happens? Basically, if a ligand binds to it, so something like you're going to have an activation of a denylate cyclase and a

0:54.7

denylate cyclase as we know its job is to convert ATP to cyclic

1:00.0

imp and that cyclic imp is going to activate protein kinase A and that's going to cause a lot of different things.

1:07.0

And honestly, on the USMLEs, there are two high-yield places to know as to all, this is where the,

1:20.0

this is where Bidoone receptors are, because honestly there are many places you can find

1:25.9

this in the body. Well typically on the USMA exams there are kind of a few select

1:31.5

places they love to go after

1:34.0

And what are those two places? Well, the one big place is going to be in your kidneys

1:38.9

at your drugstore glomerular cells and then the second big place is going to be in your heart.

1:44.0

Your cardiac myocytes, your IV node, your S. A node, the beta one receptors in many places.

1:52.0

And basically what's the effect so So maybe let's look at each organ.

1:56.4

Again if you notice from the others what I've tried to do is to you know give a quick

2:01.4

introduction and then we'll start making some integrations here but basically in the heart these things

2:08.1

the middle one receptor's job is to raise your cardiac output

2:13.0

So I really begin to see that this may be helpful
