Welcome. My name is Devine. This is episode 478 of the Devine Intervention Podcast. And to these

0:08.7

podcasts I'm going to be discussing a topic that medical students have for the longest time struggled with.

0:15.0

Really it's my hope that after you learn this topic, it will give you a very nice useful

0:21.4

framework for approaching a very common problem.

0:24.4

So into this podcast I'm basically going to and it's going to be a short

0:28.4

podcast I'm pretty much going to be discussing when you should use CT with contrast and when you should not use CT with

0:36.2

contrast right so when should you order CT with contrast and when should you

0:41.0

get CT without contrast.

0:43.0

Okay, that's the big focus and then at the end of the discussion today

0:48.0

we will go ahead and talk about a quick life lesson.

1:20.0

And again, as I go and I'll try to make some integrations,

1:22.0

I'm pulling some classic scenarios and things you may see on your on your

1:25.7

exams. So obviously right like there's a few problems with contrast that you want to be aware of

1:34.4

right so like for example they can give you a question about a person that you know gets contrast for an imaging study then all of a

1:41.6

sudden the person begins to have like shortness or breath, begins to have

1:44.8

fevers, begins to have lip edema. Obviously this person has an allergic contrast reaction.

1:51.0

And you know one easy thing they can easily test here is, oh, what's the biggest risk factor for an allergic contrast reaction? Well, it's going to be a prior history of an allergic contrast reaction. If you've had a contrast reaction before,

2:04.8

chances are pretty good that you may have it again.
