Gear lists and the so-called pack dump are trendy. So much so that I'm jaded on

0:07.9

them and I've rarely if ever looked closely at pictures of somebody's gear spread out all over or go through their lists with any kind of interest.

0:17.0

And so, man, I almost feel like apologizing for bringing you the gear list that I've put together for my

0:25.0

my DIY drop camp moose hunt next month in Alaska.

0:31.0

However, I did a gear list a couple years back and I can't recall offhand

0:36.4

whether it was for an out-of-state hunter. I think I might have been heading out on a

0:42.3

solo desert mule

0:44.7

deer hunt in the southwest, but at any rate I had so much good

0:48.4

feedback off of it, including one listener that said, you know, I kind of despise gear lists but I listen to yours

0:55.8

so the sound you're probably gonna hear some

1:26.4

boot scraping as I move around and maybe even some

1:29.5

shuffling as I pick up items off my tables and whatnot but I've done this enough that I don't really

1:36.2

use a list anymore. I go to a couple of boxes that I have labeled backcountry hunting gear and I pull the items that I know I'm going to need out of those.

1:46.6

I grab the pack I want to use, the sleeping bag and pad I want to use and just start assembling clothing and just kind of throw it all together.

1:55.0

I lay it out on a couple of folding tables in my garage.

2:01.0

And as I do so and I work with various items making sure that things are in good shape.

2:06.5

For instance, water filters are clean and so forth, other things come to mind and I go and fetch those. But for the purposes of

2:15.5

this podcast I actually made a complete list with Waits. My daughter and I
