You know Murphy's law that old adage that says if something can go wrong it will go wrong and

moreover it'll go wrong at the very worst possible time, unfortunately that does hold true for backcountry hunting.

And of course when something goes wrong in the backcountry you can't just run down

to the local sporting goods store or

hardware store or supermarket and buy parts get help to fix it or whatever the case

may be if you can't solve that problem on your own with the equipment you have with you, you're done.

And that's what I want to talk about today. Welcome to the show folks. I'm Joseph on Benedict and this is the backcountry

hunting podcast and we're going to keep it kind of brief. I'm going to talk about

some field expedient maintenance tricks that you can do and just some simple fix it kind of things.

One of the prompting inspirations behind this topic idea was just thinking about the far north and how much harder it is on firearms than the arid southwest where I grew up. You got incessant rain. There's

often salt sea air, so you got anything from salt spray to just humidity mixed

with a lot of salt in the air seems to accelerate

any kind of corrosion and so on and so forth. Cold of course has its toll as well on moving parts. So we're going to talk

about that but first a little bit of explanation on what's going on and why I've got to keep
