And welcome to Illinois. It feels like just a week ago we were in Missouri.

And I guess we were, as we studied Section 121-23, those Liberty Jail revelations.

But Missouri is now behind us, and in some ways good riddance.

Those were the hardest years for those early members of the Church.

The extermination order from Governor Boggs, which pushed them eastward into Illinois.

Amazing stories of the Saints suffering.

As Joseph is languishing in Liberty Jail, you have Emma gathering her children around her,

wearing the Joseph's matranslation.

They had made some special kind of an apron under clothing, so to speak.

They had these big pockets where she put the manuscript pages of the Joseph's matranslation,

so that she could carry them with her as she fled Missouri,

and any of the mobbers knowing what she was taking with her.

Her children wrapped in what few blankets she had remaining.

There were even some former Latter-day Saints that stole her bedding and blankets.

There in the middle of the winter, as they fled, horrible, horrible times in their rearview mirror.

And not yet knowing what lay ahead on the eastern side of the Mississippi.
