Summary

Welcome back to The Pretty Intense Podcast. Our guest today is The one and only...Dr. Drew. Dr. Drew has spent 40 years treating patience as a physician. He is the author of "It Doesn’t Have To Be Awkward", a book he wrote with his daughter Paulina, as a guide to talking to your teenagers about sex. Dr. Drew has a hugely popular show on his own YouTube and Rumble channels called "Ask Dr. Drew" https://drdrew.com. Today we cover a lot of ground. We are talking about Dr. Drew's vast experience in working with addicts. Learn what he believes triggers them to always want more, and what treatments actually work for addiction recovery. Dr. Drew opens up to us about his upbringing, with an abusive mother. We talk about what makes him a "codependent" personality type, and what that exactly means. There are good and bad sides to this character trait. We talk about childhood trauma, and how some kids rise high as a result, and others freeze in fear. We also cover what Dr. Drew's hopes are for improvements to the medical system in the US with the change of administration. There is so much to learn from this episode. We hope you enjoy our talk with Dr. Drew.

spontaneous feeling states. I could experience anger, rage, and anxiety. And my codependency, which is a

focus on other people, became kind of a superpower. You get so focused on the other person,

because that person isn't there attuning to you and giving you what you need to develop the

connections you need, you got to manage them because what comes out of them is dangerous. You get

very, very, very focused on managing other people. And you also get very good at attuning to their

emotions because if something's coming, you've got to be ready for it. I mean, the brain

fundamentally has two systems. It has a liking system and a wanting

0:38.9

system. Prediction is a disorder of the wanting system. Want to do something again and again and again,

even when it doesn't work. Crack is the greatest example of the activation of that wanting system.

They say, well, I get some crack and I'm with some friends. Can I go, what do you,

what do you think know about the first hit? Well, the first hit is amazing. What do you know about

0:58.2

the second hit? I don't about you, but I can't wait to everybody. I know so many people now in the

government that at the, you know, cabinet level officials, I can't wait to go out there and see what they see, like talk to them once they're installed, right?

1:15.7

I can't believe how many I've learned, like, come to know in a very short amount of time,

1:22.7

like Cash Patel, like Tulsi, like, do you do a lot of like political contribution stuff for networks?

1:25.0

I'm sighing when I say that.

1:28.0

So there's a long answer to that, okay?

1:29.2

I'd love to hear it.

1:30.3

That's what a podcast is for.
