Ah, so mitochondria are really ancient bacteria that were engulfed by larger

bacteria about 3 billion years ago.

And because those ancient bacteria could generate

a denosine triphosphate or ATP more efficiently with the oxygen.

That ancient organism really thrived and did very, very well and it would eventually
