Summary

For children growing up in refugee camps, education is a powerful tool of liberation. In this inspiring talk, Makhtoum Abdalla, displaced as a child in Sudan and now living with his family in the Otash camp in Darfur, shares his biggest dream: to ensure all children are educated and taught the skills needed to become “captains of their destiny.”

Hello, I am Maximum Abdullah from Sudan, born in 2004, in Niaala South Darfur.

Anur-Zamab, the western part of Sudan, is where you find in Darfur.

For over a decade, the state was affected with a conflict, which you were still reeling from.

And as a result, since I was four years old, my family have lived in a camp for internally

An IDB come for families that have been driven from their homes, for one reason, one another

to another parts of their country.

My family were displaced because of conflict, and I was born in a world full of complexity, loss and deprivation.

But despite that, my family and I are still here, full of hopes and dreams for better tomorrow.

Before the camp, we used to live in a place called Uttage village in South, Darfur.

And in the world, Othage comes from the Arabic word Attish, which is minstrelsy.

And it has been called so for the lack of water resources in that area.

And so the name of our IDB cam is Uttash Cam.

villages. I was very young when we left our home, but I can remember the fear on my family's face
