And we are going to have a conversation today with Chase and Shelby,

who are going to help us understand what's happening in trans rights right now.

So my name is Shelby Chestnut.

I use the he pronouns, and I'm the executive director of the Transgender Law Center.

Hi, everyone. So good to see you both and be here. I'm Chase Strandio. I am the co-director of the LGBT and HIV project at the National Office of the ACLU and I useUC and a them pronouns as well.

This is a series of conversations I've been doing called Election Time with AMB, which emerged

from my sense of panic about this election and like how to navigate it, what to do, and was like, let me slow down and just ask some people who know who are experts in different

areas of the work to come and talk with me.

This is, I think, like the ninth conversation or something.

They've been really beautiful.

I'm so grateful that y'all came on to talk with me today, made space for this. I know you're

working both of you just intensely and nonstop. And I also think it's really important that people

hear what you're working on and how it's moving in this moment. I think first I would just start

by asking each of you and like I'll share how we are right now.

You know, it's like existential crisis after crisis and also just amazement that we're still here in some ways.

I feel like we're living in a moment of extreme crisis every direction you take and every morning

I'm waking up a little bit heartbroken, but for me, it's driving me, I think, to keep going.

And I'm scared about where we're at.

I've been thinking a lot about trying to round myself in each day because I watch myself
