This is going to be one of the small updates and we're going to focus on an issue that's happening in the country today that the media isn't covering well enough or even at all and explain why it's important to get involved politically.

Now today we're going to talk about the United Nations, more specifically

the United Nations and the Paris Climate Agreement. But before we can get into that, we need to talk about the Constitution.

Now the Constitution is the document that guides what the federal government can and cannot do.

It created the three co-equal branches, the legislative, the executive, and the judicial branches of government, and it enumerates the powers that each

branch is granted.

There are a bunch of different parts of the Constitution that dictate what the government is allowed to do and

what powers are vested to each branch.

But the one we're going to be talking about today is the Treaty Clause.

Now the Treaty Clause is found in Article 2, Section 2, Clause 2, and it reads that

the President shall have power by and with the advice and consent of the Senate to make treaties provided two-thirds of the

senators present concur.

Now the treaty clause is important because traditionally the legislative role in government belongs to Congress.

Congress has the power to pass laws.

An international treaty or an international agreement functions the same way as a law would.

It commits the United States to do certain things and requires the United States to commit to certain

principles the same way that a statute would. So the founders understood

that if you gave the executive branch the power to make treaties on its own,

that these trees could be used as an end around Congress,
