Welcome to Talking Scripture. I'm Mike. And I'm Bryce. And today we're going to be in Moronai 7 through 9,

0:32.2

but we're going to do a little bit different. We're going to start with 9 first.

0:38.7

Nine is the gruesome tale of why the Nephites really ought to be destroyed. If you've been puzzled as to why the Nephites would be destroyed, read Moronite chapter 9. So we're just going to get this out of the way.

0:43.5

Yeah. So it's dark, it's gruesome. It tells you not only what the Lamanites are doing, but even worse than

0:49.7

that, what the Nephites are doing. And the summary to me is in verse 11, oh, my beloved son,

0:56.5

this is Mormon writing to Moronite, oh, my beloved son, how can the people like this that are

1:01.1

without civilization? That's probably the best description I've ever found is they have lost their

1:09.8

civilization. Therefore, the Lord just says

1:13.3

they have to be destroyed. Yeah. And I would just read verse 18, the depravity of my people,

1:18.6

they're without order. And then later, verse 20 in the middle, they're without principle and

1:23.4

their past feeling. There's a couple of chapters in the Torah, blessing and cursing chapters

1:29.6

that I'll relate in the show notes. But in them, there's a list of cursings, and that list

1:35.2

is being fulfilled right here. So without getting into any more detail than that, just know that

1:40.0

they're without order, and they don't have civilization. And so let's get to Moroni 7.

1:44.5

Yeah. Maroni 7 is such a gem, because he starts off, verse 1, I'm Maroni, write a few of the words of my father, which he spake concerning faith, hope, and charity.

1:57.6

Now, we've talked a bit about faith. When we did Ether Chapter 12, we spoke a lot about faith,

2:03.0

and I shared C.S. Lewis's definition of faith, and that was that faith is the art of holding

2:09.2

on to something you know to be true in spite of your fears or your imaginations or your emotions.
