Here is a link to buy the book I mentioned, “I Don’t Have to Make Everything All Better.”  I highly suggest it for anyone in leadership roles or just about anyone who wants to learn how to validate people’s feelings.  I think I need to re-read it every few years.  It’s such solid advice.

Here is the talk from Elder Holland, “Lesson’s From Liberty Jail.”

This is Come Follow Me for us, a weekly podcast where we feast on the words of Christ and have fun doing it.

0:07.7

I'm your host, Melanie Straub.

0:10.6

This is Doctrine and Covenants 23 through 26, Strengthen the Church.

0:16.2

Let's go ahead and get started.

0:18.7

The lesson says, after the church was organized, the saints

0:21.7

faced a new challenge to spread the gospel and strengthen those who had already united with the

0:27.0

church, all while persecution continued to increase. Emma Smith witnessed the opposition

0:32.6

firsthand. In June 1830, Emma and members of the Knight family wished to be baptized, but enemies of the church tried to disrupt what should have been a sacred experience.

0:43.6

0:48.5

Even after the dam was reprared, the persecutors gathered to shout threats and mock those being baptized. Then, just as Joseph

0:56.6

was about to confirm the new members, he was arrested for upsetting the community by preaching

1:01.5

about the Book of Mormon. It seemed like an unpromising start for the Lord's newly restored

1:06.8

church. But in the midst of this uncertainty and upheaval, the Lord provided precious words

1:12.6

of counsel and encouragement, which represent his voice unto all. See also Saints, and it gives

1:20.4

a reference. I hope you're reading the Saints or listening to it during the week, because as

1:26.2

much as I love all the history and I think

1:29.8

it's very valuable to know the background behind all these scriptures I really do want to

1:34.5

spend my time talking about how we can apply what we're learning to our lives and do

1:41.6

that under two hours so listen to to the Saints, read the Saints,

1:46.3

find some other resources where you can get more background

1:49.4

if that's what you're looking for,

1:51.5

because I'm not saying that that's not important at all.
