Lucero was one of our OB anesthesia attendings and Dr. Chen was in my class. We were co-residents. And

so this is really fun to have them back. They have recently published a really wonderful piece in the

New England Journal of Medicine called Calling Out Aversive Racism in Academic Medicine. And we're

going to talk about what that is and what led them to publish that and really learn a lot from

these two wonderful physicians and writers. So welcome both of you to the show. Thank you.

Thank you so much. Really a pleasure to be here. So I'd love to start by just having each of you

say a little bit for the audience about who you are and what your career looks like at this point. And

then how you got interested specifically in this topic. So I'm sorry. I was going to just jump in

here and let you know what I'm doing now. I actually, as Jed mentioned, I was his attending at UCSF

and now I've transitioned to UCLA. And the role that I serve is the Associate Dean of Admissions

for the Medical School. So I oversee the admissions, the Financial Aid Office, and I also do

Pipeline and Outreach for the School of Medicine. I also hold a role within the Department of

Anesthesia as the Vice Chair of Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion. And so and I still get to do

OBEAN Esthesia and train the future attendings in OBEAN Esthesia. So I'm going to turn it over to
