Hello and welcome back to Ackrack. I'm Jed Wolpa and we've got such a fascinating show for you today. I'm really excited to have two really

really fascinating guests who are going to tell us about really a kind of

accidental experiment they did that ended up giving them some really interesting

information they're going to share with you about potential uses you may not have thought of for

Dex metatomidine. So we're going to talk today about that medicine often

known as Precedex but we'll try to use its generic name decks meditomidine.

And we're going to talk about how it can be used as an adjuvant in epidurals, in spinals, and in peripheral

nerve blocks as well as a couple other things we'll just touch on. But let me introduce my two

guests. I have with me Dr. Michael Douglas who completed a combined

internal medicine and anesthesiology residency at Loma Linda University and now he works both there and

at Riverside University Health System practicing anesthesia and perioperative medicine.

And I also have with me Dr. Leonard Salonic,

who is a both internal medicine and anesthesia trained as well.

He did an internal medicine residency at Loma Linda

and then an anesthesia residency at Loma Linda and then an

anesthesia residency at Mass General in Boston and he is board certified in pain

medicine and addiction medicine as well. So two really really well educated

well-trained guests who have some really interesting stuff to share with us and

Dex mediatomy. I think most people know it as a medication used maybe in the

ICU maybe as an infusion in the OR for angiolisis, but there's a lot more to it than that.
