It came into the public discussion in the United States around 2015 or so and a guy who used to be a congressional staffer named Mike Lofgren.

He went on Bill Moyers and he talked about it, the deep state hiding in plain sight.

And he was saying that it really doesn't matter how people vote.

They have a permanent kind of system in Washington that works this way.

And even though he's a relatively conservative guy, and he didn't get into some of the scandals of like the sort of institutionalized crimes of the CIA and things like the assassinations of the 60s and so on, he did say ultimately that Wall Street and corporate America

were the ultimate beneficiaries of the deep state.

So in that way, it was an interesting way to have it injected into the conversation, and

the person who'd done the most work on it in the US is really

this guy named Peter Dale Scott, University of California poet and a former ambassador or a diplomat I mean,

a Canadian diplomat,

and he'd been writing about these things since the 70s

because he saw all the drug traffic

connections to things in Vietnam,

and he was really,

if you go back then to that time period people didn't have a vocabulary to

discuss these things and so we started identifying all these forces in the way that we

were governed that are just not discussed period and he called that deep politics and he wrote a book in

1991 or I think the original version University of California press on the

JFK assassination he talks about it's called deep politics and the death of JFK. He wrote about a deep political system like like involved the mob and the intelligence agencies and corporate oligarchs essentially and how even before World War II they would collaborate to be able to

govern in a way that wasn't explained by the laws like you could have people

killed Chicago had all these murders and so on
