For the first time in 17 years, the gas lobby could not raise champagne glasses at their special event.

No shoulder rubbing between senior gas industry executives, financiers and decision-makers.

This year's European Gas Conference was supposed to take place in Vienna between 25 and 27 March.

But it has been cancelled, or at least postponed.

So, for now, there won't be a new deal on the pipeline that will wreck the climate, communities and environment along the supply chain.

So, the European Gas Conference did not happen, but that didn't stop CEO from traveling

all the way to Vienna to attend the People's Summit, the Counter-Summit of the Gas Conference,

where activists and campaigners come together from all corners of the world to discuss

alternatives to fossil fuel dominance.

In this episode, I talked to CEOs, climate researchers and campaigners Pasco Savido and Belen Balaya about why this counter-conference is so important and the role of the

fossil-free politics coalition in this framework.

Before getting to the heart of this episode, let's hear about the gas conference, what it is and why it's so bad.

The gas conference itself, I mean, this year is supposed to be the 17th year.

So they've been meeting in Vienna for 17 years hosted by OMV, Austria's big oil and gas company.

And, yeah, the reason is organized by a lobby group called the Energy Council,

who pride themselves on being the world's most exclusive network of senior energy executives.

So it's proper high-level stuff.
