When my daughter was born, we thought she was a boy because she had

boy parts. And when my apparently male child started saying he wanted to wear pretty dresses like the girls were wearing.

And then in fact he was a girl.

We all freaked out.

I'm getting a picture of me in a fancy place with a pretty pose and sending it to the magazine

company.

And although I let him wear pink clothes and tennis shoes with sparkles on them, I made

him wait almost a year before I bought him a pretty dress.

Here comes the baby spinning with her mommy.

Everyone I knew assumed it was a phase, and so did I.

We all kept looking for clues that there was actually a boy underneath all that pink.

Even though everything my child loved was completely girly, my family and friends would watch

my child playing and remark on how energetic he was.

She just cuddles up in my lap.
