And my pretty Al-Anon wife, I haven't found it necessary to take a drink since September the 7th of 1973.

And for that, I'm eternally grateful.

We're taught to give our sobriety date in Texas on the premise that if you don't give one,

you may not have one.

So I don't want anybody going back to Texas and say, that kid didn't give you sobriety date.

I want to thank Clem and the committee,

whoever is responsible for the invitation. It is such a privilege and such an honor.

And it's a very special occasion for me because my little 83-year-old mom lives in Santa Cruz.

And she's never been to an AA meeting or an AA conference or an AA convention of any kind.

And this is her very first time and my very first time to speak in front of her.

And I would like for you to welcome Dorothy.

Dorothy, stand up here.

That lady's been in my life almost 62 years now.

And I want to tell you it's been a rather humbling weekend because in the business world,

I'm kind of invited to board meetings now and then, and on occasion, people ask me for decisions to make.

And yesterday, when we got to Santa Cruz, Mom had lunch ready, and I sat down, and she said,

Now, Junior, don't eat too fast, you know.

And she said, Shug, you put on a little weight, and so it's been rather humbling this weekend to have mom in the midst.
