Would you turn, please, in the scriptures to the book of James, James Chapter 2?

And our text, we'll begin reading here in verse 14 of James 2.

James 21414 reads,

What does it profit, my brethren?

Though a man says he has faith and has not works,

can faith save him?

In the NCV, the New Century version, it says it like this. My brothers and sisters, if people say they have faith but do nothing, their faith is worth nothing. Can faith like that save them?

And the understood answer is no.

It can't.

The scripture uses the term unfained faith as opposed to feigned faith.

What is fain? To fain is to feigned faith. What is fain?

To fain is to pretend, that which is not real, not genuine.

So there is that which is called faith that's not real faith.
