I'm Mark Stephen and I'm in my usual spot these days. I'm actually my garden in Aberdeenshire,

which is far from being a site of bucolic peacefulness.

We've had three days of clag, to be honest, what the Dutch referred to as ha.

It's an old Dutch word meaning it's grey and I can't see anything.

So today the sun is shining, the sky is blue and everybody's out doing things.

I've got a neighbour who's cutting silage just two fields away,

and my other neighbour, the other side of me, is doing something else pretty noisy.

So if you hear something in the background, that's what it's about.

With me as ever, from his patch, no doubt, as quiet as the grave, a bit further north, Mr. Ewan McElroyfe.

Well, sadly not. The sun came out. I was the same of you. We had months, weeks of beautiful weather up here. And then suddenly the heart came in, the temperature went down by 10 degrees. Goodness me, winters arrived. Then the sun comes out and it's fantastic. And like you, suddenly everybody has a piece of petrol engineering, whether it's a strimmer, a chainsaw,

a ride-on more or a push-al-all-more, and the countryside is polluted with the sound of four-stroke

and two-stroke engines.

Anyway, our guest of this edition of the podcast is a woman for whom the natural world is really

at the centre of her being.

We first met when she was making wildlife documentaries out of the BBC and Aberdeen,

and we've remained very close friends ever since.
