The Senate is set to vote on a bill to keep the government funded, and it's crunch time for Democrats

to decide whether to vote for the measure.

The GOP needs at least eight of them to support the stopgap bill for it to pass.

Many Democrats oppose cuts to spending on domestic programs included in the bill.

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says

he'll vote for the bill because he's worried that a shutdown would give President Donald Trump

too much power. But will other Democratic senators follow suit? That's what I asked CNN's Arlette

signs. Republicans need the support of eight Senate Democrats to clear a procedural hurdle on the bill

to avert a government

shutdown. Schumer's reversal to support the measure opens the door to enough Democrats

possibly getting on board, but even he would not say if that will happen. Opposition to the

measure has spanned across moderates and progressives in the Senate, and that vote is set to

face a key test on Friday afternoon.

President Trump says he's meeting with New York Governor Kathy Hokel today to discuss a proposed pipeline expansion into the state. It had previously been blocked by officials for environmental

concerns. Then later today, Trump is heading to the storied building from which the government

pursued criminal investigations and prosecutions
