Government funding runs out at midnight, unless Democrats decide to vote for a Republican

stopgap bill. Yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stunned some members of his party

when he announced that he would let it pass. But he slammed Republicans for putting Democrats in their current position, where they have

to either let funding run out or back a bill they don't agree with.

The Republican bill is a terrible option.

It is deeply partisan.

It doesn't address far too many of this country's needs.

But I believe allowing Donald Trump to take

even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option.

Schumer is facing some heat from other Democrats, including New York Congresswoman Alexandria

Ocasio-Cortez. She says she'll mobilize her massive base of followers to push senators

to fight against the bill. It is almost unthinkable why Senate Democrats would vote to hand

the few pieces of leverage that we have away for free. The strength that we have is in this moment.

The Trump administration is expected to use a sweeping war-time authority in the coming days

to speed up plans for mass deportations. That's according to four sources familiar with the discussions.
