1:26.5 | Hey, I'm here with Gabriel Mizrahi friend of the show and television writer. Hey Jordan, thanks for having me. Are you film or television writer? |
1:35.5 | I guess I should straighten that out both now but mostly film these days. Yeah. Got it. And you transition from working at a corporation. |
1:43.5 | I transitioned from working in a corporation. And I think this topic ended up being important by accident. It wasn't something we had planned on recording. However, we get a lot of email with questions like, well, how do I know what to do with my life? |
1:56.5 | How do I know whether or not my side gig is working? Is it worth miles? It's something I should keep pursuing. Should I quit my job to do this full time. And so I thought that two people who have made the transition would be a good place to start. |
2:10.5 | And most recently you've been getting a lot of emails from what I can tell from people saying, I've pursued that thing that I really love, but you know, it's been a year, you're in a half like, how do I know if it's worth pursuing. Should I stick with it? |
2:22.5 | Exactly. I'm struggling. When do I give up on my dream? Which must be one of the hardest questions to answer for yourself and, you know, hard for you to answer for somebody else. |
2:31.5 | But you and I both did that at some point. I would love for you just before we get started to like take us back. Can you take us back for a second to where you were when you left your job on Wall Street? |
2:43.5 | There was like that period when you left that job and then you were about to start the art of charm, which was a huge risk. That must have been a big. It was. |
2:49.5 | I mean, in so many ways, emotionally, professionally, financially, like you were completely changing gears and reinventing yourself. So take us back there. Like what were you thinking of what were you going through when you made that decision? |
2:59.5 | Well, first of all, I need to take it back even further because when I went to law school, I kind of went thinking, I'm not really sure why I'm here, but it's better than getting a crappy job that I really don't want. |
3:10.5 | Like my other opportunity was at Best Buy. I was like, just retail side. |
3:14.5 | Wait, so literally it was like either the blue shirt or law school. |
3:17.5 | Yeah, because I had applied to a bunch of jobs and the places that were hiring and bear in mind I had a four year college degree from the University of Michigan and I had good grades. |
