Summary

Jeremy is joined today by Jonathan Holmes to talk about why identity is such a hot topic today, and what it means for us as Christian parents of kids facing enormous cultural pressure.

How do we give our kids a gospel-centric identity in Christ? Do we need to spend more time and effort building a family identity to combat peer-pressured identity formation? How can the church start to take back ground on gender, identity, and the Christian sexual ethic?

These topics are hard to talk about, because so many people want to focus solely on the exceptions to the rule, and forgo talking about the general teaching, so it was a blessing to wrestle deeply with these issues with Jonathan.

This conversation needs to be happening way more often, especially for those of us with children being impacted by an outside world heavily influenced by the enemy.

0:44.9	it. Yeah. So Jonathan is the founder and executive director of the Fieldstone, Fieldstone counseling,
0:51.2	and he's been on pastoral staff on some churches as well as written a number of
0:56.9	great books he really helps churches in particular kind of navigate some of the especially
1:04.0	most challenging kind of areas of identity and and a lot of things that are happening I think
1:10.4	in the in the whole counseling world.
1:12.4	And so I'm really excited to dive into some of those topics.
1:15.8	Jonathan just wrote a book, a fantastic book, called Grounded in Grace, helping kids build
1:21.8	their identity in Christ.
1:23.6	And I'm very, very interested in this topic of identity. And man, this is such a hot topic that we need to understand at a much deeper level. So I just wanted to jump right in, Jonathan, to that conversation. Why do you think identity is, like, how do you define it? And then why do you think it's becoming such an important topic today?
1:45.5	Yeah, it's a great question. I agree with you. I think it is one of the hottest topics today,
1:50.5	but maybe not in the reason why a lot of parents and Christians might think of it. And here's,
1:57.5	here's how I'll come at it. You know, you hear a lot today about mental health
2:01.2	in children and teens, how depression, suicide,
2:04.3	anxiety rates are higher than ever.
