My parents, English is their second language.

I mean, they're both fluent, but I do think

in the Filipino culture, like love is a very demonstrative thing

And I also think this is one of the things in in childhood like the way that you really communicate love the ways that I felt it the most was like in the ways they took care of my body

and food was such a huge part of that. This is Angela Garbus, writer, speaker,

daughter, mother.

Angela began her journalism career writing about food.

Shortly after she became a mom, she published an article about breast milk

that catapulted her career in a new direction.

She has since authored two books on motherhood,

like a mother, a feminist journey

through the science and culture of pregnancy,

and essential labor, mothering as social change.
