Welcome to Goop Tales, episode 46, Yawanda and the Frozen Flood of Timbuck 2.

0:15.6

I'm Maria Kalinchini, and I'm the author of Goop Tales.

0:19.9

And in today's episode, we are going to travel to Timbuktu.

0:25.8

Now, Timbuktu is a place that you often hear in reference.

0:30.7

People will say things like, oh, they're in Timbuktu, meaning it's a far away place.

0:36.6

But I never really knew where it was, or if it was even a real

0:40.7

place. And in fact, it is. And you're going to find out all about it. And I'm going to tell you a

0:47.3

couple fun facts before we get started with the story about Timbuktu. It's actually a city that is located in the Sahara Desert in Mali,

1:00.9

which is a country in the northwestern part of Africa. So Timbuktu is very real and it is in Africa.

1:17.6

And unfortunately, it seems to either get an extreme drought where there's no water or floods where there's way too much water flooding the city.

1:20.6

So it is not necessarily a good situation, but that is what happens in Timbuktu. They get one extreme or the other. And one last

1:32.3

interesting fact is that ardvarks live there. And you're going to meet an ardvark in this story,

1:39.9

quite the saucy ardvark. And his name is Alec. And when researching, I found out that ardvarks can eat up to 60,000 ants and termites in one night

1:55.7

because they have very, very long, sticky tongues.

2:00.0

Sounds very disgusting to me, but I'm sure they enjoy

2:03.0

their aunt dinner. So on to the story. And before I go on to that, just two quick things.

2:10.0

One is I just want to thank, once again, everybody who has taken the time to leave reviews

2:16.1

on iTunes. It means so much to me. And just when you

2:21.8

actually write things out and I get to see them, it just, it means a lot to me. And I read them

2:26.6

every day and look for new ones. And I just saw the one from Prince and the Revolution. And oh my gosh,

2:33.6

you know, you made me cry.

2:35.0

It just touched my heart.
