Was little Teeza, four years old β€”
Was little Teeza mischievous?
Ah no, β€” she never made a fuss!

Welcome to Goop Tales, episode 48, Tiza and the Taj Mahal. I'm Maria Kalanchini, and I'm the author of Goop Tales.

0:16.6

So in today's episode, we are going to India to the Taj Mahal.

0:23.4

So I have never been to the Taj Mahal, but I hope to go one day.

0:27.9

But I'm very intrigued by it, and it's obviously a super popular tourist destination.

0:36.2

And for those of you young listeners who don't know what it is,

0:40.8

the Taj Mahal, even though I refer to it in the story as a palace, it's not technically a palace,

0:47.8

although it looks like a grand Indian palace. It is a mausoleum. And a mausoleum is a very fancy word for a tomb, a place where people

1:00.8

are buried. So the Taj Mahal was created over 400 years ago by the ruler in India, the emperor Shah Jahan, and he made the Taj Mahal to bury his

1:18.8

favorite wife called Mumtaz. So you'll hear a little bit about that in the story,

1:25.8

but I just wanted you to know what the Taj

1:28.4

actually is.

1:31.0

And let's see, what else did I want to tell you about this story?

1:36.1

An interesting fact is that it took over 20,000 workers from all over, from India, from Persia at the time, from Europe, with over a thousand

1:48.8

elephants to build the Taj Mahal. So it is quite a marble, and maybe you'll get to see it

1:57.8

one day too, if you haven't already. So that's what I wanted to tell you

2:01.9

about the story. And before we start into it, I also wanted to give a little shout out to two people,

2:09.8

or a couple people, to Langston, who sent me in a very cute email and said that, Langston, I am not sure if you're a boy or girl. I'm sorry

2:20.3

because I just got an email from Langston. I think it's a boy and he got a Roodella t-shirt.

2:26.7

And I love that. I would love to see a picture of you in your Roodella T-shirt. I'm going to start Instagramming more.

2:35.7

I never do that social media stuff,

2:37.7

but I really want to connect with you guys more

2:39.8

and show you what's going on
