Howdy all, this is Father Corey Stieka.

Jesus is risen.

He is risen indeed.

A very blessed Easter to all of you.

We've entered into this joyous season where the Savior of the world, who came to give

his life so that we might enter into eternal life, has risen from the dead.

New life now awaits us who follow him.

Now, I began with a very traditional greeting, often referred to as the Paschal greeting.

Now, we don't hear it as much in the Western Church, the Roman Catholic Church, however

you want to refer to it.

But Eastern Catholics and Orthodox regularly encounter it.

It's very strong tradition still in their church, sometimes even within their liturgies.

It's done much like the exclamations, the Lord be with you and with your spirit, which

we as Western Catholics are familiar with from our mass.

This is an ancient greeting.

This greeting goes back almost to the time of the Apostles.

And it's given as an exclamation of joy.

It's that joy that salvation is open to us.

Joy that our sins don't longer keep us from receiving eternal life in the kingdom of

heaven.
