Gina Grant was a straight-A student and it wasn't effortless. She put in the work.

She was smart, driven, and definitely had something to prove to the world.

Gina was so academically gifted that she applied to four elite colleges, including Harvard, and she got in to all of them. She even got a write-up in the Boston

Globe titled Beating All of the Odds, because Gina actually grew up as an orphan that had to

navigate her teenage years all by herself, and somehow, academically, she still ended up on top.

Harvard was in the cards for Gina until one day when the admissions team got a newspaper article from her past.

This article changed everything, and Harvard rescinded their offer.

See, Gina was an orphan, but she wasn't honest about where her parents went.

It would later come out that she was quite a liar.

A homicidal liar. It is 1976 in South Carolina, and Gina Grant has just been born to her father, Charles Grant,

and then her mother, Dorothy Grant.

For the duration of this episode, I'm actually going to call Dorothy Dot,

because one, that's the cutest name ever for Dorothy,

and then two, that's what everybody called her.

Dorothy, or Dot, she was an executive assistant at a bank, and then Charles, he was an engineer.

As usual, everything in the home starts out pretty normal. I mean, of course, there were

problems, but, you know, there was no major issue in the first couple of years of Gina's life.

Her older sister, Dana, was actually nine

years older than her. So her parents already kind of knew how to raise a kid. They'd done it

before. They made a choice to have another child. And Gina was getting all of the attention from

fairly experienced parents. Now, despite this seemingly solid two-parent home, there were a couple of
